Member Berry Strain – Everything You Need To Know

Named for those nostalgic blueberry-like characters in the classic comedy show South Park, this indica-dominant strain will have you reminiscing with friends and reveling in the memory of all your favorite yesteryear phenomenons, as you “member” your way to utter zen!

Member Berry Strain - Everything You Need To Know

But rose-tinted glasses to one side, this is an incredibly interesting strain, not just in terms of how it makes you feel, but from a purely botanical perspective too.

Despite the indica DNA, it has a mismatched chemical profile that seems to contradict the nature of typical sedative strains. Interest piqued? I’m not surprised.

This strain is something else, so let’s put it under the microscope and see what really makes this mysterious flower tick.

Member Berry Strain: Bud Breakdown

Let’s start by laying the essential on the table:

  • Sativa = 30%
  • Indica = 70%
  • THC = 15%
  • CBD = 1%

Now, as I’m sure you’re aware, traditionally, indica strains are heavy on the CBD, which is why they’re associated with more of a body high, but as you can see, Member Berry has an incredibly mild CBD content compared to THC, resulting in some weird and wonderful highs.

Member Berry Genetics

Cultivated by the genius green thumbs/lungs over at Colorado-based (of course) breeding site, Ethos, Member Berry is a Frankensteinian hybrid of two excellent strains… Skunkberry and Mandarin Sunset.

  • Skunkberry — One of the first ever hybrid strains, Skunkberry is a much-celebrated classic, and when I say “celebrated”, I really mean celebrated. This strain took home the Best Hybrid award at the 2012 High Times’ Cannabis Cup and the #1 Best Recreational Hybrid at the 2016 THC championship. It’s a pungent specimen with a strong flavor comprising notes of berries, hints of citrus, and an undertone of skunk. It’s thought to score between 15 and 40% on the THC front, and usually 0% on the CBD side of things.
  • Mandarin Sunset — Mandarin Sunset is yet another hybrid that traces its roots all the way back to some intriguing Afghan pedigree. It too offers up high levels of THC, as well as less than 1% CBD. As an intoxicating sativa with sedative qualities, it’s a pretty versatile bud with plenty of medical and practical applications. While earning notoriety as one of the most visually stunning buds in existence, it’s just as renowned for its powerful scent and flavors. Partake in some of this beautiful bud and you’ll get a sweet, orangey body with light citric undertones and a hint of spice.

Member Berry High: What Does This Strain Feel Like?

Considering Member Berry is an indica-dominant hybrid, you’d likely be preparing yourself for a serious case of couch-lock after a toke or two, but interestingly, that stacked THC content adds just enough of a cerebral element to the high that you can be quite creative.

Don’t get me wrong, you’ll probably still want to hang loose and watch all your favorite movies and shows, but you won’t be a passive observer staring slack-jawed at the screen the way you would after a vape or bowl full of a CBD-heavy strain.

Rather, you’ll be an active participant, capable of thinking critically about the things you’re observing, making it very easy to extract inspiration and get creative yourself.

The THC content also produces a lovely rush of euphoria mere seconds after taking a hit. It’s nothing overwhelming, so I wouldn’t necessarily worry about being caught off guard; it’s just an uplifting force that puts your smile to work.

There’s still a bit of a body high to contend with, but the way the THC and CBD intermingle with this strain gives you the best of both worlds, mellowing you out whilst simultaneously elevating your mood and thoughts.

As the high progresses, the cerebral edge begins to round off leaving you with a nice melty sensation that’s very conducive to a good night’s sleep, so if you’re wise, you’ll get your chores done sooner rather than later when hitting this bud.

Member Berry: Best Time Of Use

Bearing in mind what we just discussed, I feel the best time to use Member Berry is mid-to-late afternoon, as you’ll be able to capitalize on the creative, cerebral buzz to get through the last of the day’s chores and then cozy up into the evening as the euphoric afterglow takes hold.

That said, if you’re planning to stay up late, I’d hold off until early evening, otherwise, you’ll burn out quite quickly and end up sleeping on the couch from 9 pm. Under the right circumstances, early morning isn’t completely out of the question.

For instance, if it’s the weekend and the weather’s not looking too hot, take a hit, get creative in the house, then enjoy some downtime after the fact. For professional creatives working from home, you’d be hard-pressed to find a bud more suitable for enhancing your focus and abilities.

But rather than use it as soon as you get going, I’d recommend waiting until you hit a slump, then using Member Berry as a creative supplement.

It’ll get you right back on track, helping you make some significant progress before the more cerebral high gives way to the relaxing undertow. Personally, I’d avoid using this strain too late, as I’m assuming you don’t want to be hit by that creative rush just before bed.

You’ll be up forever thinking about cool band names, your next project, what you can get your best buddy for their birthday… anything and everything.

Member Berry Aroma & Flavor

Member Berry Aroma & Flavor

Member Berry inherits the aromas of its parent crops, but they’re not exactly at the forefront. That said, connoisseurs will detect hints of berry, grape, and clementine upon grinding a nug, but a more prominent scent is that of pine, contributing to a faintly sweet, skunky profile.

Where this bud really pops is on the tongue, which is strange as for most strains the inverse is true.

Bringing the fruity accents into the foreground, you’ll be struck with notes of orange, grapes, and berries, and with the sweetness of the Mandarin Sunset coming through, it’s akin to a nice, tart fruit pie, especially when vaped.

It’s perhaps my all-time favorite skunk-derivative flavor, as although you can definitely taste the skunky history in this bud, the floral and fruity elements are the stars of the show, making for a truly diverse flavor profile that you can appreciate the way a sommelier appreciates a glass of wine.

Member Berry Appearance

The core color coming through Member Berry is the vibrant green inherited from Mandarin Sunset, but threads of darker forest-green hues add variety and nuance to this stunning strain.

It’s a relatively crystal-dense bud, so you get that lovely silvery coating that you know is going to work wonders for your kief collection as you grind, and a wealth of orange works its way into the mix by way of the thick, vivid pistils woven throughout the bud.

That said, there are a number of different phenotypes of Member Berry, so there is quite a lot of variation from one to the next. Some have long green leafy appendages, while others are positively bursting with fuzzy trichomes. Some even have a purplish accent here and there.

Member Berry Medicinal Benefits

As such a fantastic lifter of moods, the majority of the medicinal perks of Member Berry are cognitive in nature. For instance, many swear by it as a way of combating depression.

It’s also a very effective stress reliever, as the shift between cerebral and relaxing high acts as a fantastic transitory tool that delivers you seamlessly from your active, work-oriented side to your relaxed home time side.

You hit the tail end of work hard using the THC as a boost, then when the creative wave recedes, you’re immersed in your personal freedoms. The stresses that often linger on after we clock out dissipate, allowing you to truly engage with and enjoy some you time.

Some PTSD sufferers have also reported diminished symptoms after using Member Berry, as it helps free the mind up, liberating them from their cyclical and repressive post-traumatic thoughts.

The THC content can be a pretty effective pain reliever for some as well, and as it doesn’t just knock you out, it can really improve your standard of living and help you get by on a day-to-day basis.

Member Berry Potential Side Effects

Member Berry brings along all the classic side effects you’ll experience when using any strong strain, especially cottonmouth. Those with a low THC tolerance will do well to tread lightly, as some users report headaches and dizziness after hitting this bud.

I’d also advise anxiety sufferers to err on the side of caution with Member Berry. It could potentially alleviate some of your symptoms the way it does for PTSD sufferers, but as such a THC-heavy strain, it can certainly make things a lot worse too.

Final Thoughts

Member Berry is a magnificent strain that I highly recommend most people take for a test drive. In my eyes, it’s worth a go just to experience the wildly potent flavors, and if you wind up enjoying the multifaceted high, well then fantastic!

As for consumption method, I’d always shoot for a quality vape over joints or bongs, as combustion all but destroys the flavor profile, which is one of the best things about partaking in Member Berry.
